Sydney Flight College (SFC) showcased exceptional flying skills at the 2025 Australian Light Aircraft Championships (ALACs), held from 30th of April to 3rd of May 2025 hosted by the Manning River Aero Club in Taree, New South Wales. The annual event, run by the Royal Federation of Aero Clubs Australia (RFACA) is hosted by aero clubs around Australia and draws pilots from across Australia and New Zealand to compete in categories including Streamer Cutting, Forced Landing, Spot Landing, Aerobatics, and Formation Flying.
This year’s ALACs coincided with Australia’s turn to host the Wings International competition, which pits Australia and New Zealand against each other in a test of aerial precision and teamwork. The event was a celebration of aeronautical skills, bringing together the best pilots from both nations.
SFC sent a strong contingent of six student pilots to represent its Sydney and Tamworth bases:
Team Sydney: Hamish Parsons, Kevin Nanayakkara and Naomi Abercrombie.
Team Tamworth: Bennett Evans, Sascha Lubimowski and Priyansh Gupta.
Among the standout performers was Sascha Lubimowski, who placed 3rd in the overall standings for Spot Landings and proudly brought home the Federation Spot Landing Trophy— an Australian-only award presented to the top local pilot in the discipline - the first time it has returned to SFC since 2015.
“We are incredibly proud of our pilots’ achievements. Their performance at ALACs is a testament to the rigorous training and commitment of our students and instructors,” said Joseph Pilo, Chief Executive Officer.
The Australian Light Aircraft Championships provides a platform to test the precision and skills of pilots under competitive conditions, highlighting the importance of discipline and expertise in aviation. SFC’s success at ALACs reflects its commitment to producing world-class pilots who excel not only in training but also in competitive aviation.
SFC’s achievement at the 2025 ALACs underscores its position as a leader in Australian aviation training, inspiring confidence in its programs and students alike. For more information about Sydney Flight College and its programs, visit Sydney Flight College’s website.
