On the evening of Saturday 10th April 2021 Tumut Aero Club (TAC) are holding an outdoor movie night on the Tumut Airfield apron, adjacent to the TAC club rooms. SFC aircraft will fly down in the early afternoon of Saturday 10th April, and return around midday on Sunday 11th.
Tumut is about 1.5 hours flying time from Bankstown in an Archer, and is a town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, situated on the banks of the Tumut River. It sits on the north-west foothills of the Snowy Mountains and is located on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri, Wolgalu and Ngunnawal Aboriginal peoples. Most importantly, it has one of the friendliest flying clubs around, and they have invited us to their open-air cinema night. Here are the details:
If the weather is on our side guests will be served nibbles on arrival (beginning approx. 16:00) followed by a healthy meal of pizza & soft drinks. Just after dark, the night will continue with feature movie Red Tails (the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the 332nd US Fighter group of WW2) and followed by a documentary Spin Doctors (a very interesting look at the F18 Super Hornet spin test program). Camping under wing, or on floor in TAC Club House. If you prefer you can stay in town, or in TAC Airport Lodge for those who have booked in time. The next day a full BBQ breakfast will be served at approximately 8.30am.
Sunset is 1800 hrs EST, so all visiting aircraft will need to be on the ground and parked by 1715 hrs. Please bring suitable clothing/blanket (as the evenings can get cool in April) along with your favourite comfortable folding chair, otherwise chairs will be available from the clubhouse. No alcohol will be provided. However, if you wish to bring your own then remember Tumut Airfield is a Licenced Aerodrome, and weather permitting, the movies will be screened on the tarmac. If rain is expected, the event will be held in the Clubhouse.
The TAC Lodge is available for rent (first in basis, details on the TAC website) and transport in to town can be arranged with a local member for those wishing to source accommodation in Tumut.
Cost will be $20 per head, plus the standard breakfast cost for those wishing to stay for same. View the event poster.
